Brassai Artist Georges Braque French Artist Studio Signed Letter Must See

BRASSAI Braque in his Studio, Impasse du Douanier, 1935-36c. 3 1/4 x 2 1/8 inches Facsimile letter from Brassai Printed no later than 1972. In 1972 Brassai mailed a group of small photographs to the NYC Art Dealer Robert Schoelkopf in advance of his exhibition at the Robert Schoelkopf Gallery.

These photographic gems were used to facilitate the curation and layout of the show and include some of his best images. A scanned copy of the letter (shown above) will accompany the photograph.

Between 1966 and 1979, Schoelkopf's gallery was the only gallery in New York City that showed painting and sculpture with photography as fine art. He represented the work of Brassai and Cartier-Bresson though he was primarily interested in antiquarian photography and the work of 19th and 20th century masters such as Atget, Brady, Watkins, and Cameron.
