1/6 PLATE TINTYPE - VERY RARE MEDICAL IMAGE - BLIND MAN MISSING EYES - MUST SEE! - You are considering is extremely rare medical related tintype of not only a blind man, but a man who appears to be a man who has had his eyeballs removed from the sockets altogether. In the few images I have seen on tintypes, a person especially with this condition or disfigurement would have worn dark lens glasses to conceal this condition. The man is clearly captured with his the sunken eye sockets proudly on display.
Judging by the age of the cartouche sleeve this tintype is contained in, the man could have lost his eyes during the Civil War. In addition, I believe the pin on his lapel to be a Salvation Army emblem and his watch fob appears to have a religious Saint on the front side of the fob.
Good luck to all my fellow collectors landing this very unusual image. CONDITION : Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The sixth plate contains excellent contrast, tonal range and sharpness. The image resides in a paper cartouche sleeve with some typical age related wear and stains. Super rare medical subject matter showing this man's condition is what makes this a truly unique 19th Century tintype.
